Jaffna Stallions lifted the inaugural Lanka Premier League title after beating Galle Gladiators by 53 runs in Hambantota. Chasing 189 in 20 overs, Galle were restricted to 135/9.

Jaffna Stallions lifted the inaugural Lanka Premier League title after beating Galle Gladiators by 53 runs in Hambantota. Chasing 189 in 20 overs, Galle were restricted to 135/9.

Galle lost three early wickets at the start of the chase and were reduced to 7/3 when Bhanuka Rajapaksa stepped up to take on the Jaffna bowlers. He scored a brisk 17-ball 40 including four sixes brfore perishing.

Azam Khan too tried to hold on to the innings and notched up 36 in 17 balls before getting out. No other batsman got among runs for the Gladiators.

Earlier, riding on Shoaib Malik’s 46 and some fine and aggressive batting from Dhananjaya de Silva and Thisara Perera, Jaffna put on 188/6 in 20 overs. De Silva scored 33 off 20 while Perera remained unbeaten at 39 off 14.
