Six-hitting in cricket, especially in the shortest format of the game, has developed to a great extent. In the modern-day game, big hitters like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, etc. have entertained the crowd with their big-hitting ability.

However, all the big hits have not always ended in the right way. Unfortunately, some have ended hitting some of the spectators in the stands.

Here are five instances of cricketers hitting the ball in the crowd and someone among them getting injured.

Cameron White vs India, Vizag 2010

Australia faced India away in the three-match ODI series. With the second ODI being played at Vizag, Australia batted first. They posted a competitive score of 289-3, thanks to a fine hundred by Michael Clarke.

Cameron White was also one of the chief destroyers as he smashed 89 runs off just 49 balls. He hit six huge sixes and one of them went and hit straight into the head of one of the spectators, who was sitting in the first row.

David Miller vs KKR, 2015

David Miller has made a reputation for himself for being someone who hits towering sixes. Both him and Glenn Maxwell were instrumental in helping Kings XI Punjab reach the final of the 2014 IPL season.

Miller continued his fine form in 2015 too. In a game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Miller smashed a ball into the crowd. But unfortunately, it went on to directly hit one of the police constables in his right eye. In a very tragic series of events, that constable will now have to be visually impaired for life. Miller was quick to apologise for this incident and he took to Twitter to express his sorrow.

“The incident and its ramifications have been terrible. I wish this was not true – I am sorry for Mr Aich’s irreversible loss and wish him the best recovery possible,” Miller tweeted.

Hamish Rutherford vs England , Dunedin 2013

New Zealand were playing England in a Test match at Dunedin and England were bowled out in the first innings at 177. New Zealand got off to a solid start and Hamish Rutherford looked in good touch.

Batting on 38, Rutherford decided to up the ante and took on spinner Monty Panesar. He smashed him for a huge six over long on. The spectator sitting on the grass banks had no clue that the ball was coming towards him. Eventually it ended up hitting his face.

Chris Gayle vs PWI, 2012

Chris Gayle had become one of the star players at the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was known for hitting monsterous sixes. He played a brilliant knock of 81 off just 48 balls in one of the games in the IPL 2012 season against the Pune Warriors India.

But one of his huge sixes went on to hit a ten-year-old girl on her nose. Gayle had no clue about it first. But when he came to know, he made sure that he went and met the girl. He was pleasantly surprised to see the girl respond by telling him to continue hitting huge sixes.

Sourav Ganguly vs England, Leeds 2002

India played England in the third Test at Headingley in Leeds. They got off to a patient start on the first day. This was thanks to some fine knocks by Sanjay Bangar and Rahul Dravid, with the latter scoring an impressive 148.

Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar scored centuries too. This helped India post a mammoth total. Ganguly particularly was super aggressive against the England bowlers, especially against spinner Ashley Giles. In one of his overs, Ganguly smashed Giles for a gigantic six into the stands. One of the spectators tried to catch the ball but it missed his hands and hit flush on his forehead. It started bleeding at first but the man was fine later.
