The former Pakistani batting coach Grant Flower had narrated the shocking incident that happened to him at Brisbane.
Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed as Younis Khan as the batting coach for the away series against England to be played after the series against West Indies. Apart from Khan, Pakistan have appointed Mushtaq Ahmed as the spin bowling coach for the series. Younis has been the backbone of the Pakistani batting line up as he scored more than 10,000 runs in Test cricket. He also became the best batsman in the ICC Test rankings.
“I remember one incident in Brisbane, during the Test, at breakfast, I tried to give him a bit of batting advice … But he did not take kindly to my advice and brought a knife to my throat, with Mickey Arthur sitting alongside, who had to intervene.”
“Yeah, it’s been interesting. But that’s part of coaching. It makes it a hell of a journey, and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve still got a lot to learn, but I’m extremely fortunate to be in the position I am,” Flower said.
Pakistan has done reasonably well on England shore every time. This time, the Pakistani team lacks experience but would be looking to showcase their talent. Under the coaching of Misbah UL Haq, Pakistan were whitewashed by Australia 0-2.
Grant Flower who coached Pakistan Cricket Team from 2014-2019 had a disappointing performance in Test matches. Apart from winning the Champions Trophy 2017, Pakistan lost Test matches away from home and series in UAE.
With Younis Khan as the batting coach, the inexperienced batting line would be looking to show their mettle against England top quality bowlers in their own conditions which will be a challenge. With no Mohammad Aamir, the responsibility would be on Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Abbas do the damage at the top.
While in the batting department, only Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq have played Test matches on England soil. It would be interesting to see if Younis Khan can help the young batsman and challenge England.
