Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been called in as cover for injured opener Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan got injured during India’s second round-robin match against Australia while batting.

The left-hander though scored a ton but didn’t take part in the second half of the game. Batting coach Sanjay Bangar told the media that Dhawan was under observation and a final decision on the batsman would be taken in 10-12 days.

“As far as Shikhar is concerned, we are observing him,” Bangar said on the eve of the game against New Zealand.

India next play New Zealand on Thursday in Nottingham. The opener’s replacement in the playing XI is yet to be confirmed but Bangar said that Rahul “automatically moves to the top” in place of Dhawan.
