Velocity clinched a win in the first match of the Women’s Challenger Trophy after beating Supernovas by 5 wickets. After winning the toss, Velocity skipper Mithali Raj opted to bowl first.

Priya Punia and Athapaththu began the proceedings for Supernovas in a decent manner but Punia’s departure saw a couple of wickets going down. Athapaththu and captain Harmanpreet Kaur though steadied the ship for the side but Athapaththu was dismissed for 44.

Kaur was later sent back in the hut for 31. No other batter really got into the groove and they were restricted to 126/8 in 20 overs.

Ekta Bisht was the pick of the bowlers for Velocity as she scalped a three-for while Kasperek and Jahanara Alam bagged a couple of wickets each.

Later, Velocity lost Danielle Wyatt for a golden duck while Shafali Verma and Raj was also sent back early. Veda Krishnamurthy, Sushma Verma and Sune Luus kept the things in their control.

While Veda scored 289, Verma and Luus struck 34 and 37* respectively. Ayabonga Khaka picked up a couple of wickets for Supernovas.
