Cricket Australia is going through a tough phase, financially. India is supposed to tour down under in October this year for a 4 Tests, 3 ODIs and 3 T20, matches.
The Corona Pandemic is not yet under control, the future of the tour is not yet confirmed How ever solving Cricket Australia’s financial woes depends heavily on India making the tour..As on date India has agreed to make the trip down under this year, revenue worth 300, million Australian dollars is expected to be generated by this tour.
Cricket Australia is taking no chances for the tour and in the words of CA Chief Kevin Roberts, “it may be that circumstances dictate that when the time comes board will keep the option open for hosting the four tests in one or two venues depending on travel restrictions due to the health crisis.”
But the future of T20 world cup which is also scheduled for October November 2020 ,is still quite uncertain. There is a high risk of of the event not happening due to Corona Virus threat. If this happens the Cricket Australia is set to loose Australian dollars 80 million as per CA Chief Kevin Roberts.
He warned of another round of cost cutting measures to deal with the financial impact. CA has already furloughed about 80 per cent of its staff and reduced grants of member states by 25 percent.
Moreover putting up the mandatory bio security measures in place in the grounds ,will cost another 10 million dollars. Roberts was criticized by former players for over reacting and rushing into cost cutting measures.
Roberts stated “it is unfortunate that there will be an impact on our people, but as you would appreciate,we are stepping through the planning of that very carefully, to ensure we can minimize on the impact of the circumstances.”.
