Former skipper MS Dhoni is considered to be one of the finest leaders in world cricket not just because he has one a number of ICC events but also for his game sense and the loyalty he shows towards his team and team members.
One such incident was revealed by former India coach Gary Kristen when Dhoni canceled a trip because Kristen along with other support staff were not allowed on it.
“Just before the World Cup, we were invited in Bangalore to go to the flight school. We got word back on the morning before the whole team was meant to go – and everyone was looking forward to the event – that the three South Africans, which were myself, Paddy Upton and Eric Simmons, weren’t going to be allowed into the flight school because it was seen as a potential security risk,” Kirsten told on The RK Show on YouTube.
“So MS cancelled the whole event. He just said, ‘These are my people. If they’re not allowed in, none of us are going’. And that was what he was about,” Kirsten said.
Kristen was India’s coach when India won the World Cup in 2011 under the captaincy of Dhoni after beating Sri Lanka in the final at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium.
India chased down a target of 275 riding on Dhoni’s 91* and Gautam Gambhir’s 97 by 6 wickets.
