Joining the debate started by Gambhir a few days ago, where he had stated that Dhoni had a great batting technique and had he stuck to the No 3 slot in batting order he would have broken many records and scored much more runs that he finally ended up scoring.
Irfan Pathan ex Indian allrounder has strongly backed current Indian Captain Virat Kohli and said that he has the better technique than Dhoni to play at the number 3 slot.
Dhoni has amassed 993 runs while batting at no 3 slot in 17 ODIs, with an outstanding average of 82.75.His first ODI Ton came while batting at this slot vs Pakistan, his highest ODI score of 183, vs SriLanka also came while batting at this slot.
However Pathan is of the strongly of the opinion that Kohli is much better than Dhoni at the number 3 slot. The current Indian Captain has proved his prowess over a decade .He is the only Indian Batsman to sustain an average of 50 across all formats of the game and that is the Hallmark of a great player. In fact Kohli is tipped to better Sachins Records in TEST and ODIs.
Arguing his case Pathan further stated that MS Dhoni had all the chance to carry on batting at the no 3 slot as he was playing on that slot and was captain as well but he himself chose to come down the order decided to come down the order at number 5 or 6,and proved to be one of the best finishers of the game. In these years Virat has emerged as one of the top batsmen in the world he has broken all records batting at no 3, and become the backbone of Indian batting after the retirement of Tendulkar.
At no 3, Kohli has scored 9,751 runs in 187 ODI matches with a breathtaking average of 62.90. with 36 centuries winning many matches for India. By sheer performance has made the number 3 slot his own.
