After a comfortable win in the first match, La Soufriere Hikers defeated Dark View Explorers in a high scoring thriller played at Arnos Vale Sporting Complex, St Vincent on Saturday. With this win, Hikers move on to the top of points table with 2 wins out of 2.
Dark View Explorers captain Lindon James won the toss and decided to field first. Darius Martin gave away 6 runs in the first over against inform Maloney and Salvan Browne. Kemran Strough got the big wicket of inform Desron Maloney in the 2nd over for just 8. Browne smashed a six as Strough gave away 11 runs in his first over.
Dillion Douglas who could not face any deliveries in yesterday’s match got off the mark with a double. Salvan Browne and Douglas took the attack to Davian Barnum taking him for 17 runs in his first over. At the end of three overs, Hikers were going great guns at 34 for 1. Browne and Douglas played with positive intent and kept the scoreboard ticking with their power hitting. As things looked dangerous for Explorers, Greaves struck to get rid of Browne for 23 off 16 balls. Browne and Douglas added 48 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Dean Browne came to the crease and showed his positive intent. On the other end, Douglas created pressure on Explorers bowlers. Into his 2nd over, Greaves dismissed Dillion Douglas for 41. Douglas and Browne added 37 runs for the 3rd wicket.
He then got wickets of Casmus Hackshaw and Rawdon Bentick in the same over to stem rate of scoring. Darius Martin bowled a stunning 9th over giving away just 7 runs. After the fall of Douglas wicket, explorers’ bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals. It was an amazing batting performance by Hikers side as they posted 109 for 6 in 10 overs. Chasing a mammoth 110 runs to win, Deron Greaves and captain Lindon James played with positive intent right from word go. Kenson Denzell got the breakthrough for Hikers dismissing Greaves for 20.
Explorers openers added 54 runs in 5.3 overs. James continued his aggressive approach and kept the run chase on course. Rayan Williams got the wicket of Kensley Joseph for just 3. Shammon Harper hit 2 boundaries in the 9th over. With 13 runs required to win, James took a single off the first ball. A brilliant run-out ended James innings. Dean Browne held his nerves and helped Hikers win the match by 6 runs.
