India fast bowler Umesh Yadav joined the elite group with Sachin Tendulkar after scoring 31-ball 10 against South Africa in Ranchi on Sunday. Yadav’s late surge saw him leading the list of the batsmen with the highest strike rate in Test cricket (minimum of 25 runs).
Umesh also became the fourth Indian batsman after Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, MS Dhoni to hit a six off the first ball faced in a Test match. 31-year-old Umesh Yadav has become the first batsman in the world to hit five sixes without a four in an innings in a Test match.
He became the third player to hit two sixes off the first two balls. Sachin Tendulkar, who was called the God of Cricket before Umesh Yadav, hit two sixes in the first two balls against Australia in 2013. Umesh Yadav hit all sixes against Jordan Linde.
The right-hander’s onslaught didn’t end here. He scalped Quinton de Kock’s wicket as South Africa ended the second day’s proceedings at 9/2.
