The Sri Lankan cricket has been hit by a shocking revelation after three players have come under investigation for match-fixing as per sports minister Dullas Alahapperuma.
The names of the players haven’t been disclosed.“We are sorry to see that sports had fallen short of discipline and character”, as quoted by India Today.
The SLC has made it clear that the players who are under investigation are not the active players.
“Sri Lanka Cricket strongly believes that what the honourable minister actually mentioned was about an investigation launched by the ICC anti-corruption unit against three former Sri Lanka players and not the current national players”, a statement by SLC.
The Sri Lankan cricket is facing controversies these days. Earlier, Shan Madushanka was arrested by the police for possesing drugs. Madushanka has represented the country in the T20Is and ODIs. He was caught by the police with 700mg heroine.
The cricket in the island country hasn’t seen much success in the past few years. Their last successful campaign came back in 2014 when they won the World T20 beating India in the final.
Though, Sri Lanka have also won the 50-over World Cup in 1996 and ended as runners-up in 2007 and 2011. They lost to Australia in 2007 and India in 2011.
