In reply, New Zealand batsmen took on the Sri Lankan bowling and posted 431/6 (D). Tom Latham struck 154 while BJ Watling remained unbeaten at 105.
Sri Lanka were put under pressure by the Kiwi bowlers as they lost both the openers early in the quest. Niroshan Dickwella tried to resist and scored 51 but his efforts were not enough to help the side make a comeback in the contest. Sri Lanka were eventually bundled out for 122.
