The boxing Day Test began on Thursday.

Australia had a decent start to the second Test against New Zealand in Melbourne as they scored 257/4 at the end of the first day. New Zealand did get an early breakthrough after Joe Burns was dismissed for a golden duck but David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship for the side.

Warner then departed for 41 but Labuschagne and Steve Smith compiled a partnership of 83 runs for the third wicket. Labuschagne scored 63 while remained unbeaten at 77.

Trent Boult and Neil Wagner scalped a wicket apiece while Colin de Grandhomme bagged a couple. New Zealand trail the three-match series 0-1 after losing the first match.
