After a positive start in the year 2020, Indian cricket is now suffering back to back setbacks. The U19 team lost the World Cup final while the senior team was thrashed by the Kiwis 3-0 in the ODI series and now the women’s team has lost the tri-series final against Australia.

Batting first, Australia put 155/6 in 20 overs in Melbourne on Wednesday. Beth Mooney struck an unbeaten 71 during the course of the match while Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad scalped a couple of wickets apiece.

India then lost Shafali Verma early in the chase but Smriti Mandhana was in song as she smashed 66 in just 37 balls. While Mandhana showed mettle at one end, no other batter stayed at the crease and the left-hander kept losing partners at the other end as India were bowled out for 144 to lose the final by 11 runs.

Jess Jonassen picked up a fifer for Australia.
