India women’s team player Shafali Verma etched her name in record books after becoming the youngest Indian to score a half-century at the highest level at the age of 15 and 285 days old. She surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Shafali scored 73 runs from 49 deliveries, which included six boundaries and four maximums.
Tendulkar achieved the feat when he was 16 years and 214 days old. Batting first, India rode on Shafali’s 49-ball 73 and Smriti Mandhana’s 67 off 46 to post 185/4 in 20 overs. They later restricted West Indies to 101/9 in 20 overs. Shikha Pandey, Rekha Yadav and Poonam Yadav scalped a couple of wickets apiece.
