Saqlain Mushtaq was born on 29 December, 1976. He made his debut for Pakistan in 1995.He represented Pakistan in 49,Tests taking 208 wickets ,in 169 ODIs taking 288 wickets and in 9 T/20 matches taking 14 wickets.
He had a fairly satisfying Career,and also represented English County’s Surrey and Sussex, with a fair amount of distinction.
He was considered a sincere and desciplined player. He was somewhat of a trendsetter as he was the first to master the mysterious’Doosra,’ a delivery that spins away from the batsman even though it is delivered with a classical offspinners action.He is the fastest bowler to scalp 100 wickets in international ODI matches.
Saqlain has vast experience of having successfully, been with the England,West Indies and Newzealand team as coach/consultant.
According to reliable sources PCB has selected Saqlain as the high performance coach for its international players.He is set to join the High performance centre in Lahore,and PCB has seriously started the task of revamping the centre with Appointment of Nadeem khan as it’s Director.The PCB has released all the major officials who were working with NCA including its director Mudassar Nazar, Haroon Rashid and Ali Zia. PCB has hired David Parsons a hi performance coach from England to prepare the syllabus and guidelines for the NCA,which will now be known by its new name” High performance centre”.
Saqlain had previously applied for the post of Pakistan junior team and A team coach,but could not get the job as his team mate Ejaz Ahmed was preferred over him.But recently PCB advertised for full time job, for various positions, Saqlain applied for Hi Performance Coach and was selected.
The PCB wants full time psychologists and councellors for its players also ,with a view to possibly improve the sagging performance of its National team at International level.
