Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has been making a number of controversial statements these days and he has now come up with a new claim.
According to Afridi, Sachin Tendulkar was “afraid” to face Shoaib Akhtar during his playing days. “Sachin obviously won’t say it himself that ‘I’m scared’. There were some spells from Shoaib Akhtar in which not only Sachin but some of the world”s best also got shaken up,” he said.
Akhtar had made similar claims earlier in his autobiography ‘Controversially Yours’ in 2011 and these have now been backed by Afridi.
Tendulkar holds the record for the most number of centuries and runs in both ODIs and Tests in the world. His career spanned for almost 24 years, where Sachin was also a part of the World Cup-winning team in 2011 led by Dhoni. Akhtar on the other side has been the fastest bowler in the world.
The former India cricketer averages 45 against Akhtar in 19 ODIs and has been dismissed 5 times by the fast bowler. In Tests, Scahin has been dismissed by Akhtar thrice in 9 matches.
India have been pretty dominant against Pakistan in the last few years. Moreover, they have a hundred percent win record against the arch-rivals when it comes down to World Cup matches.
India, infact defeated Pakistan in the semi-final of the World Cup 2011 in Mohali after which they made a place in the final and won the trophy eventually. Tendulkar scored 85 in that match.
