Commenting on his teammate former Indian Star Irfan Pathan , stated that Rohit was always meant to be a top class batsman internationally. Who ever saw him bat knew that he was special and will rewrite many records. He made instant impression with his maiden half century in the T/20 World cup against the strong bowling of the South Africans.
But unfortunately after the initial success his form dipped considerably. He was dropped from the squad for the 2011 World cup, and this was a major blow to him .
Pathan Said that Rohit took a beating of not playing the World cup. He got more motivated after being dropped from the side, and started working hard on his game.” Lots of guys are mistaken when they see a player who has a lot of time for his strokes and is more relaxed.
They say that he needs to work harder. Same comments were passed about Wasim Jaffer his aura was relaxed he never seemed to be in a hurry, he had lots of time for his strokes, we used to think he never works hard, but actually he was.” Irfan said on a talk show.
Rohit Sharma’s career took an upswing after he started opening in the 2013 Champions Trophy. He came back with a strong mindset after 2102, and never looked back. Rohit has always been a team man and has put the interest of the team first when- ever he has played. He has been a top performer in white ball cricket since past 5/6 years.
“With Rohit we used to think that he might need to work harder, and put in more efforts and application. He always was sensible and spoke about putting the team’s interests first, and working hard sincerely. That’s the reason why he has been so successful as Captain of Mumbai Indians.” Said Irfan Pathan.
Rohit Really came of age at last year’s World cup in England by becoming the first batsman in History of the World cup to smash 5 centuries in a single edition of the championship.
For this feat the ICC, Awarded him with the ICC player of the year award for 2019 for his record breaking efforts.
