India opener and limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma has been awarded with the the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for 2020. Sharma is the fourth cricketer to achieve the feat after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.

The right-handed batsman had a brilliant show at the World Cup 2019 and he scored 1,490 runs in the 50-over format, which included seven hundreds – the most by any player in the calendar year.

Sharma holds the record for the highest indivual score by a batsman in ODI cricket. He scored 264 against Sri Lanka. Apart from this, Rohit also holds the record for scoring three double tons in ODI cricket.

He is one of the three Indian batsmen to have scored a double-century in ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar was the first one to achieve the feat while Virender Sehwag is the other one.

He has so far played 224 ODIs, 108 T20Is and 32 Tests for India and has amassed over 9000 runs in ODIs, more than 2000 runs in T20Is and 2141 runs in the longer format of the game respectively.

Indian women’s team player Deepti Sharma and Ishant Sharma has been conferred with Arjuna Award.
