The brutal incident of killing a black guy in US had made healdines earlier and gained attention of the cricketers especially from West Indies and South Africa. Former Windies skipper Darren Sammy was pretty vocal about the problem of racism.
Later, South African quick bowler Lungi Ngidi also came in support of the “Black Lives Matter” campaign. The right-handed fast bowler faced criticism from former players Boeta Dippenaar and Pat Symcox for his stance. But he also got support from 30 other cricketers including Makhaya Ntini, Vernon Philander, Ashwell Prince, Paul Adams, JP Duminy, Charl Langeveldt and Herschelle Gibbs.
Another name who supported Ngidi in this cause was Alviro Petersen. But since the time he has come in Ngidi’s support, Petersen has been receiving hate mails. He revealed it in a series of tweets.

I have just received an extraordinary gracious message from a former ‘white’ Proteas player & I quote;— Alviro Petersen (@AlviroPetersen) July 16, 2020
“Alviro, stay strong in your belief. You earned the right to wear the green cap. Most detractors don’t know anything about the game itself and what goes on behind the scenes”..
Earlier, West Indies cricketer Darren Sammy had urged the ICC and the entire cricket fraternity to raise their voice against Racism across the world,or else be ready to be considered “a part of the problem.”
Sammy pointed out that Racism is not limited to America, but blacks all over the world have to deal with this social evil on a regular basis.
