Former England captain Kevin Pietersen praised Rahul Dravid’s influence on his batting and said the advice of the legendary Indian batsman on how to play spin opened up new avenues for him.
Pietersen said that his experience of the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing with world-class players like Dravid and Virender Sehwag helped him to increase his shot.
The former England star batsman said, “Dravid wrote me the most beautiful email, told me about the art of playing spin and since then I had a new world.”
During the discussion on the change in ODI batting over the years, Pietersen said on Sky Sports, “The most important thing is to look at his length as soon as the ball is thrown – wait for the spin and make our decision.”
During his ten-year career between 2004 and 2014 for England, Pietersen was one of the most aggressive batsmen in the world, especially in limited-overs cricket.
Pietersen scored 8181 runs in 104 Tests at an average of 47.28 while in 136 ODIs he scored 4440 runs at an average of 40.73. Pietersen said his switch hit ‘Switch Hit’ shot also had the role of playing squash for hours at a young age.
