Former India captain Rahul Dravid has defeated Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar to become the greatest Indian batsman accroding to an online poll conducted by the Wisden India.
Dravid got 52% of the votes while Tendulkar received 48%. The poll comprised of 16 Indian cricketers including Sunil Gavaskar and present India skipper Virat Kohli being the two other semi-finalists.
Both Dravid and Sachin have been consistent performers for the team throughout their career. While Sachin holds the record for the highest number of runs in both ODIs and Tests and also notched a total of 100 hundreds, Dravid’s defensive technique has been par excelllence.
Dravid’s 270 against Pakistan and 233 against Australia have been some of the knocks that have been etched in the history books. Not to forget Dravid also scored a 96 on his debut against England where former India captain and present BCCI President Sourav Ganguly scored a ton.
Dravid played a total of 164 Tests for India where he scored over 13000 runs at an average of 52.3 while in 344 ODIs, he struck over 10000 runs at an average of just over 39.
On the other side, Tendulkar played 200 Tests for India scoring over 15000 runs at an average of 53.8 while played 463 ODIs and scored over 18000 runs. Tendulkar also became the first male cricketer to score an ODI double hundred and was a part of the team that went on to win the 2011 World Cup under MS Dhoni.
