R Ashwin is just one wicket away from another world record to his name. The off-spinner who is playing his 66th Test will jointly top Muttiah Muralitharan with the fastest 350 wickets in international Test cricket if he picks up a wicket on Sunday.
Muralitharan completed 350 Test wickets in his 66th Test against Bangladesh in 2001. Ashwin’s fifer in the Test was his 27th. He has also taken 10 wickets seven times in Tests.
Ashwin is returning to Test cricket after almost a year. He was also included in the Test team on the West Indies but did not get a chance to play. India have handed South Africa a target of 395 runs. By the end of the fourth day’s play, the visiting team has scored 11 runs losing one wicket.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma took on the Proteas bowling attack and hammered another ton in the match.
