The Pakistan Cricket Board have announced 29-man squad for the 3 match Test and 3 T20I matches series that is slated to start from August. Currently now, West Indies have landed for historic series after the Coronavirus period. West Indies and England will play 3 matches in bio-secure environment that would begin from 8th July without crowds.
Mohammad Aamir and Haris Sohail have ruled themselves out due to personal reasons. The openers include Abid Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Imam and Shan Masood. Pakistan played their last Test match against Bangladesh at home this year. After reaching England, Pakistan will streamline the squads to play the respective formats.
Azhar Ali and Babar Azam has been named the captain of the respective squads. Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq, Fawad Alam are middle order batsmen. Haider Ali is the only new face included in the squad. He performed reasonably well in the PSL 5 edition for Peshwar Zalmi with 239 runs at a strike rate of close to 160. Haider was a consistent performer for Pakistan in the 2020 Under 19 World Cup played in South Africa. Khusdil Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed, experienced players of Shoaib Malik and Mohammed Hafeez are included in the squad.
Sarfaraz Ahmed has made a comeback in the squad with Mohammad Rizwan a second wicketkeeper. Among the fast bowlers, Faheem Ashraf, Haris Rauf, Imran Khan, Mohammad Abbas, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Usman Shinwari, Wahab Riaz, Shaheen Shah Afridi. Sohail Khan also makes a return to the Pakistan squad after a long time.
Imad Wasim, Kashif Bhatti, Shadab Khan and Yasir Shah are the four spinners included. They need to go to England for a quarantine time and practice before starting. The schedule for the series is yet to announced.
Pakistan will have a new coaching staff as Younis Khan has been appointed as the batting coach, while Mushtaq Ahmed as bowling coach and Misbah UL Haq as coach.
