A Mumbai Club cricketer, Karan Tiwari reportedly committed suicide on Monday at his residence in Malad. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room, on Monday night at his home in Konu Compound, Gokuldham.

A close friend of Tiwari revealed that the fast bowler was under severe depression after missing his selection for IPL 2020.

Karan was popularly called ‘Junior Steyn’ because of his speed and physique.

Mumbai Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) post this incident. Babasaheb Salunkhe, senior Police Inspector at Kurar police station told mid-day, “We have registered an ADR and investigations are on.” Police cited the same reason, that Karan was under depression because he couldn’t get through any of the 8 IPL teams, in 13th edition, which will commence from 19 September in UAE.

Very sad news for Mumbai Cricket ???? . . 26yr old Karan Tiwari who was one of the most aspiring & promising fast bowlers from Mumbai Club Cricket is no more between us. . . Karan played for Souvernir CC and Sind Sports Club top division club cricket in Mumbai. Last season, Karan was the only fast bowler who had taken a hat-trick in Kanga league, he had also bowled some supreme spells of fast bowling which included 6wkt haul vs Young Maharashtra CC. Just last year we had posted a video of Karan bowling in nets and there were immediate comparisons drawn with @dalesteyn . Also those who have played with Karan know how talented fast bowler he was. . . Karan's mates & coaches shared, he was inspiration for all of us in terms of professionalism and fitness. Also he was very quick and he was about to get good opportunities after lockdown. . . Rest in peace ???? Mumbai Ka Dale Steyn is no more between us but he will always be in our hearts. Guys please let's pray for him and respect his family's privacy. Let's avoid in comments or personal messages to find the reason behind his demise ???? . . #rip #restinpeace #karantiwary #mumbaicricket #mca #mumbaicricketassociation #cricketgraph #cricket #news #sports #media #dalestyeyn #rohitsharma

If the sources are to be believed, Karan had told his best friend that he would commit suicide. “Karan called his best friend in Udaipur to inform him that he is going to commit suicide. He was depressed after not getting a chance to play in the IPL.”

Speaking on the same, Karan’s close friend said, “He was hoping to get selected for a state team. He was in talks with a few of them. He played for Souvenir Cricket Club and United Friends Sports Club and recently completed a Level 1 coaching course.”
