Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh revealed that MS Dhoni had given him a clear picture of his place in the side for World Cup 2019. Yuvraj said that Dhoni had told him that the selectors were “not looking at him” as a player in the side.
Yuvraj played a massive role in India’s success in the first World T20 in 2007 and then in the 50-over World Cup in 2011. He was adjudged man of the series in 2011. But he went missing from the squad in 2015 edition after coming back from illness.
Though, he did play a big tournament after 2015 World Cup squad snub. He was a part of the team in 2017 Champions Trophy that India lost to Pakistan in the final.
“When I made my comeback, Virat Kohli supported me. Had he not backed me then I wouldn’t have made a comeback. But then it was Dhoni who showed me the correct picture about the 2019 World Cup that selectors are not looking at you,” Yuvraj told News18. “He showed me the real picture. He gave me clarity. He did as much as he could.”
India bowed out of the 2019 World Cup after losing to New Zealand in the semi-final. England were eventually crowned champions after they defeated New Zealand in the final at Lord’s.
The left-handed all-rounder hung his boots last year. Yuvraj played 304 ODIs where he scored more than 8000 runs at an average of 36.5.
He was also an important player for the side in the shortest format of the game. Yuvraj scored 1177 runs in 58 T20Is. He became the first player to score a half-century in 12 balls in a T20I match and also smacked six sixes in an over against England in the same match. In 40 Tests, he scored 1900 runs at an average of 33.9.
