Lokesh Rahul, the wicketkeeper-batsman of the Indian team and captain of the Kings XI team, says that Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former captain of Team India as a captain is his inspiration. Rahul became the captain of the Punjab team in the IPL for the first time.
Earlier in his career, he captained India A in 2019. He says that Captain Dhoni, who made India a 2-time world champion, is his inspiration. Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on 15 August. Rahul said, “Dhoni has always been my inspiration as a captain.”
I am lucky that I got a chance to play under his leadership. Apart from Dhoni, Rohit Sharma is also a good captain and Virat Kohli is an unprecedented captain. I have learned a lot from all these people and I hope that when I captain, I will use all these things.’ On Dhoni’s retirement, he said, “It was quite shocking.” To be honest, my heart broke.
I am sure that all the players who have played with him would like to give a memorable farewell to Dhoni and hope that he plays once again so that we get an opportunity to give him a special farewell.’
The wicket-keeper batsman said, “Dhoni is a player who has guided all of us well and he never expected us to change. He used to give us the freedom to play our way and to learn from those mistakes if we made a mistake. If we ever had doubts or we would have found someone to answer the questions, he would always be present for us. They knew when to teach the players.
Rahul said, “Words are less for Dhoni. On other days also, when I thought of writing on Dhoni’s retirement on Instagram or Twitter, I would think about what I should write for him. You don’t have enough words to say how much he has done and how many people have changed the lives of Dhoni. He is an inspiration to so many people inside and outside the field. It is unprecedented.’
