After sharing sour relationships with the neighbors Pakistan, it was in 2004 when India visited Pakistan on 5-match ODI series and 3-match Test series. The first long format clash between the two cricketing giants saw some ecstatic batting display from both ends. Huge amount of runs were scored during the course of this clash. But it was Virender Sehwag who took away the limelight. The then Delhi batsman and India’s mainstay batter scored India’s maiden triple hundred in Test cricket. He scored 309 runs during India’s quest of a mammoth 675 runs. The score was sufficient to restrict Pakistan from a victory in Multan. India won that match by an innings and 52 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. This was also India’s first Test win on Pakistan soil that came under Sourav Ganguly’s flamboyant leadership.

500th Test: C.K. Nayudu’s guidance; Lala Amarnath’s legacy

Indian cricket will see a new beginning of an era when they face New Zealand in Kanpur from September 22 in the first Test of a 3-match Test series. The new India skipper Virat Kohli is on song both with the bat and with his captaincy and the Delhi dasher has gathered a lot of appreciation from the cricketing greats.

It would be a historic moment as India will become only the fourth nation after England, Australia and West Indies to play 500 Test games. India have had numerous captains in the longest format who have led the Tri-colored nation to a huge amount of glory.
