The Bangalore crime branch has arrested “international cricket bookie”, Sanyam Gulati in KPL match-fixing investigation according to a report in The Indian Express.

“The KPL fixing scam runs really deep and there are many big names involved. These will emerge as investigation progresses and evidence is gathered,” a senior police official said.

Former Karnataka players CM Gautam and Abrar Kazi were earlier arrested by CBI on fixing charges. This came as another setback for the Karnataka Premier League. Wicket-keeper batsman Gautam who shifted to Goa and Kazi who is now with the Mizoram side were accused of spot-fixing during the KPL final between Bellary Tuskers and Hubli Tigers.

Both the players had played for Tuskers and were allegedly paid INR 20 Lakhs for batting slow during the match. Gautam scored a 37-ball 29 while Kazi struck 13 off six balls as Tuskers were restricted to 144 while chasing 153.

Nishant Singh Shekhawat and M Viswanathan were also arrested earlier, along with Bengaluru Blasters bowling coach Vinu Prasad. The owner of Belgavi Panthers Ali Asfak Thara was also arrested last month and the team was handed a suspension thereafter. Bhavesh Bafna, a drummer who plays during RCB’s IPL fixtures, was taken into custody for his involvement in fixing.
