Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka said, ‘The biggest concern for us was the operation of Jason Behrendorff. We needed to replace him with a new player. He performed brilliantly for us last year. When Delhi decided to release Bolt, we felt that he is a world-class bowler which is very dangerous for the opposition team in our circumstances. Especially when he bowls with Bumrah. ‘

Mumbai had to leave spin bowler Mayank Markande. Jayawardene said, ‘Obviously we let Mayank go because we thought he could play a few matches for Delhi and then we got a chance to get Sherfen Rutherford, who we consider a great talent.’

Jayawardene said, “Dhawal Kulkarni is an experienced bowler. We needed to add him to the team. They are from Mumbai only. So we had no hesitation in including him in the team. We have strengthened some areas which were important to us and now we are excited about the auction.”
