India inched closer to a clean sweep win against South Africa in the three-match Test series in Ranchi on Monday. The visiting team once again failed to make an impact with the bat and were left tottering at 132/8 before stumps were called on. Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav rattled the top-order as the two shared a total of 5 wickets out of the eight. South Africa now trail India by 203 runs.
Earlier, the Proteas began the proceedings on Day 3 at 9/2 and were bowled out for 162 to hand Virat Kohli’s side a lead of 335 runs in the first innings. Kohli then enforced a follow-on that certainly proved fruitful as once against South Africa were pushed on the backfoot by the bowlers.
The visitors also suffered a huge blow after Dean Elgar was ruled out of the game due to concussion. He was replaced by De Bruyn. India have already clinched the series and are now seeking another whitewash win.
