India and Pakistan have faced each other nine times in U19 WC.

Have you watched the ‘Mauka Mauka” advertisement? Of course. And if you are an Indian cricket fan, you would be delighted every time you see it on your TV sets. There is a famous statistics behind the making of this advertisement that India have never been defeated by the Pakistan side in a World Cup match.

But the junior team’s story is a bit different. India and Pakistan have met each other nine times in the U19 World Cup and the Pakistani side have clinched the victory five times that included 2006 final. Though Pakistan have suffered defeats in the last three clashes they still lead the chart. Here’s a look at all the encounters.

1988- Pakistan won by 68 runs

The match took place in New South Wales and Pakistan after batting first scored 194/7 in 50 overs. Later, India were bundled out for 126 and Pakistan won the match by 68 runs.

1998-India won by 5 wickets

The second edition of the U19 World Cup was held after a decade in 1998. This time the Indian team squared the equation after beating Pakistan by 5 wickets. Batting first, Pakistan were bowled out for 188 after Amit Bhandari and Reetinder Sodhi shared 7 wickets in total. Later, captain Amit Pagnis and Mohammad Kaif struck individual half-centuries and guided India home by 5 wickets.

2002- Pakistan won by 2 wickets


In the 2002 edition, the Pakistan side led by Salman Butt defeated Parthiv Patel’s India by 2 wickets. India batted first and were bowled out for 181 and Pakistan managed to chase down the target by 2 wickets after Butt scored 85.

2004 (Semifinal) – Pakistan won by 5 wickets


India were once again outplayed by Pakistan in 2004 to get eliminated from the tournament. The Indian team led by Dinesh Karthik comprised of players like Robin Uthappa and Suresh Raina. But the Pakistan bowlers dominated the Indian batting thoroughly and bundled them out for 169. Later, they had a struggling start but eventually went over the line by 5 wickets.

2006 (Final)- Pakistan won by 38 runs


This was probably one of the most heart-breaking matches that an Indian cricket fan could witness. Riding on a scintillating bowling display from Piyush Chawla and Ravindra Jadeja, India bundled out Pakistan for 109. But the Pakistan pace attack just blew away the Indian batting line up and reduced them to 9/6 before eventually getting out for 71 and lose the match by 25 runs.

2010 (Quarterfinal) – Pakistan won by 2 wickets


India lost to Pakistan in the 2010 quarter-final by a whisker. After batting first, Ashok Menaria-led side scored 114/9 in 23 overs. Pakistan managed to chase down the target by just two wickets and three balls to spare.

2012 (Quarterfinal) – India won by 1 wicket


Another India-Pakistan match thriller took place in the 2012 edition. The Indian team led by Unmukt Chand managed to chase down a target of 137 by one wicket and only 12 balls to spare.

2014- India won by 40 runs


In 2014, India met Pakistan in a Group match. India batted first and scored 262/7 in 50 overs. Later, riding on Deepak Hooda’s fifer, India restricted them to 222 to win the match by 40 runs.

2018- (Semifinal) – India won by 203 runs


India and Pakistan met in the last edition of the World Cup. Shubman Gill’s aggressive 94-ball 102* guided India to 272/9 in 50 overs and then Ishan Porel restricted the Pakistan batsmen to score runs after he picked 4 wickets. Pakistan were bowled out for 69 to lose the match by 203 runs.

The team that wins on Tuesday goes to play the final.
