The ICC Chef Executives meeting on Tuesday,10/6/’20 approved the recommendations of the Anil Kumble led Cricket Committee like Saliva on the ball and non neutral umpires.etc.
The focus now shifts to the board Meeting on Wednesday, 11/6/20, with the global cricket body yet to take a Final call on the future of the T/20 world Cup Scheduled to be held in Australia in Oct-Nov this year.
The BCCI feels that a further delay in this issue on the World Cup will be detrimental to its future planning regarding IPL.
Some other boards also think likewise as Bilateral Cricket series are going to be the lifeline of all Cricket boards in future, in terms of revenue generation.
For the Indian Board, postponement of the World Cup will give it a window to stage the IPL in autumn. The BCCI needs a window of atleast 40 days to conduct the tournament. It cannot plan for it unless ICC makes the postponement of T/20,World cup official.
Other boards are also waiting for the ICC to decide before planning their future Bilateral series. An official confirmation will benefit all said a BCCI official, the sooner the better.
At a time when Cricket Australia, the T/20 World Cup host is showing reluctance to hold the tournament this year, the ICCs dilly-dallying hasn’t apparently gone down well with several boards.
Grapevine has it that ICC wants to take the matter to its full council in July, before making a final decision. An ICC functionary said ,the “ICC wants to explore all the options and and give itself as much time as possible to do so.Theres no rush for a decision yet, it’s about doing things properly.”.
Meanwhile as interim changes, certain suggestions of the Cricket committee have been approved:
1.A team will be allowed to replace players showing Corona virus symptoms in Test Cricket only ,not in ODIs or T/20s.In line with concussion replacement the match refree shall decide on a Corona positive player replacement as well.
2.Saliva use on the ball. ICC has shown leniency on this aspect it has banned the use of saliva but the process will have three layers.
a) Talking to by the umpires , b)followed by two warnings,.
c) finally a 5 run penalty.
A team can be issued two warnings per Innings, repeated defaulting will lead to 5 run penalty. The umpires will be instructed to clean the ball before play commences.
3.The ICC also approved non neutral umpires and additional DRS review.
4.Relaxation of rules on apparel logos for the net 12 months.
