After a lot of discussions and debates, India found a “regular” number 4 batsman in Shreyas Iyer and the right-handed cricketer did justice to the task he was assigned with.

But former fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has put his weight behind MS Dhoni and has suggested that he would like the aggressive batsman to play and number three or four.

“Instead of treating Dhoni as a finisher, I will play him up the order. I would probably ask him to bat at number 3 or 4,” Prasad told The Time of India.

Dhoni has been out of action since India’s exit from the World Cup 2019 after losing to New Zealand in the semis. He missed out the New Zealand tour earlier this year while wasn’t there on the team sheet for the bilateral tie against South Africa at home.

He was also ommitted from the BCCI’s list of centrally contracted players. Dhoni was earlier seen practicing with his CSK team at the Chepauk stadium before the lockdown was announced. The cash-rich league could have been an opportunity for him to make a comeback to the side.

But this COVID-19 outburst has certainly put a halt on all the events around the globe.

An interesting stat about Dhoni’s batting is that his highest individual score in ODIs (183*) against Sri Lanka came while batting at number 3. This is the highest individual score by a wicket-keeper batsman in ODI cricket. He surpassed Adam Gilchrist’s 172 to achieve the feat.
