Former elite panel umpire Simon Taufel in a recent interaction with Cricket Edge shared an incident about MS Dhoni and how the former skipper tackles a tricky situation on and off the field.
“We had come out of a Test match in Cape Town where Sreesanth – had just finished playing a game there and we actually had to fine MS Dhoni for slow over-rate because Sree takes 7-8 minutes to bowl an over.”
“ We told him if this persists, he is likely to have a holiday. He said: ‘that’s okay, I need a holiday, I would like to have a game off,” Taufel further said.
Dhoni retired from Test cricket in Australia in 2014 while stepped down as the captain in limited-overs cricket in January 2017 handing the baton to Virat Kohli. He has since been available as the wicket-keeper batsman.
He last played for India against New Zealand in the semi-final of teh World Cup 2019 and has been out of action since then. India lost that match and bowed out of the tournament.
He missed the tour of New Zealand while didn’t feature in the squad for the South Africa series at home that was eventually cancelled due to coronavirus outbreak. Moreover, Dhoni’s name was also omitted from the list of BCCI’s contracted players.
