MS Dhoni led India to three ICC trophies winning triumph while Sourav Ganguly was instrumental in making a team that had the courage to face any line up in the world.
But very few know that Gautam Gambhir had a 100% winning record as a skipper. Yes, he led India in 6 matches and won them all. Moreover, Gambhir etched his name in the record books after he joined the list of captains to have grabbed a clean sweep win in an ODI series. He achieved the feat against New Zealand in a five-match ODI series.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan heaped praise for Gambhir and suggested that the left-handed batsman should have led the team more than he actually did.
“I have huge respect for Sourav Ganguly, I have great respect for the captaincy of Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and I think Gautam Gambhir should have led the Indian team a lot more as well than he did. He could have been a really good leader,” Pathan said while talking to Cricket.com.
Gambhir has been instrumental in introducing new talents on the domestic front while led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the title win twice under his leadership.
In 58 Test matches, he scored 4154 runs at an average of 42 while in ODIs and T20Is, Gambhir notched up 5238 and 932 runs repectively.
The left-handed batsman also played an important role in Indian’s winning triumph in World T20 in 2007 and 50-over World Cup in 2011.
