West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy is all set to get honourary citizenship of Pakistan by President Arif Alvi on March 23, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Saturday. This is the highest civil award of Pakistan known as Nishan-e-Pakistan.

The PCB confirmed the news in a tweet and said that Sammy would be rewarded for “invaluable contribution to cricket in Pakistan”.

The West Indies all-rounder is a part of the Pakistan Super League and is leading Peshawar Zalmi.

Earlier, Zalmi owner Javed Afridi had requested the president to reward Sammy for his work and grant him the honorary citizenship as quoted by The Dawn.

The right-handed player had played an important role in bringing back cricket to Pakistan when he accepted to play the PSL final in Lahore in the 2017 edition. He has been a part of the PSL in four editions earlier and is playing his fifth this year.
