Ex Indian all- rounder Irfan Pathan who played 29 Tests scoring 1105 runs at an average of 31.57, and taking 100 wickets at an average of 32.26. He also played in 120 ODIs scored 1544 runs and took 173 wickets in T/20s he represented India in 24 matches taking 28 wickets.
He has always been a vocal Cricketer and has never shied away from voicing his opinion. He has utilized his position as a former Indian Cricketer to spread a positive message through social media. He has raised his voice talking straight to the point – be it about the riots in Jamia Millia Islamia, or about discrimination.
He recently spoke on the raging debate around Racism and said it is not restricted to the skin Colour’ on twitter in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis which sparked a widespread ‘Black lives matter’ protests.
Later, Pathan even defended his statement by tweeting “My Opinions are always as an Indian and for India.” After his statement did not sit well with a section of social media users. Talking about the pressures of handling social media, on the Instagram show ‘beyond the Field.’ Pathan said“ you can only build your image on social media if you have a thick skin and are real .As a social influencer and a person who has represented India at the highest level, I will always speak about unity.”
“I try to keep my life private but brig my thoughts to the people so that my country can benefit from it.” Last year Pathan was one of the few sportspersons to speak up on the police lathi -charge against several students of Jamia -Millia –Islamia during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Pathan also addressed the issue of members of sports fraternity and cricketers not speaking up on burning sensitive issues.
“Ideally, cricketers or sports stars can come out and talk about issues plaguing society, then it will only take the country forward.
