PM Narendra Modi on Friday interacted with 40 sportsmen including skipper Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Cheteshwar Pujara focusing on the on-going issue of the Coronavirus outbreak.
A number of sports events were either canceled or postponed due to the outburst. The country has been locked down till April 14.
One of the major events that have been affected by this outbreak is the Indian Premier League which was scheduled to begin in March end and was later postponed till April 15. The BCCI has not yet canceled the 2020 edition of the cash-rich league and is hoping to hold the event for a smaller duration.
Kohli had earlier pledged support towards PM-CARES Fund & the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (Maharashtra) while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) donated Rs 51 crore while Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar too came forward to give a sum of Rs 50 lakh to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Sachin Tendulkar decided to contribute Rs 25 lakh each to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in his bid to join the fight against COVID-19.
Former India captain and current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had come forward to help in a different way. The former left-handed batsman will donate rice worth ₹50 lakh.
