The Board of Control for Cricket in India recently removed Virat Kohli from the ODI team and handed over the leadership of the team to Rohit Sharma. Earlier, Kohli had left the captaincy of India’s T20 team. Announcing before the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, he had said that he was taking this decision due to the workload. Now Rohit has become the captain of T20 as well as ODI team.
The statement given by the BCCI on the removal of Virat Kohli from the captaincy of the ODI team has surprised many. In such a situation, Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has also expressed surprise over this decision of the board. He has reacted to this saying that the selectors should have been clear with him on their stand when Kohli resigned from the captaincy of T20.
Rajkumar Sharma also expressed surprise at Sourav Ganguly’s statement on change of captaincy in an interview to KhelNiti Podcast saying, “I recently read Sourav Ganguly’s statements that he did not ask Kohli to step down from T20 captaincy. I don’t remember anything like that. This statement came as a surprise to me. There are different statements going around.” In fact, the BCCI President, while giving a statement on the captaincy of the ODI team, said that the board had requested Kohli not to step down as the T20 captain.
At the same time, Rajkumar Sharma, while speaking on the decision of the selection committee, said, “The selection committee does not give any reason behind the decision. We don’t know what the management or BCCI or selectors want. There is no explanation, no transparency.”
