Debutant Priya Punia stamped authority on the biggest stage for India against South Africa in the first ODI in Vadodra after she slammed an unbeaten 75 to help the hosts win by 8 wickets. Chasing 165, India went over the line with more than 8 overs to spare.

Jemimah Rodrigues too struck a half-century. Earlier, Jhulan Goswami’s superb bowling display restricted the South African side to 164 before getting bowled out. Shikha Pandey, Ekta Bisht and Poonam Yadav scalped a couple of wickets apiece.

The two teams will now meet on Friday at the same venue for the second match. Earlier, India also clinched the T20I series.
