Ben Stokes, the star of World Cup 2019 bags another achievement to his name. The Man who performed brilliantly in World Cup 2019 and made England World Champions, now wins the Players Player of the Year award.
England all-rounder Ben Stokes was voted ‘Best Player of the Year’ at the K Union (PCA) awards. Stokes played a key role in England’s 50-over World Cup title win in which he was the ‘man of the match’ in the dramatic final against New Zealand in July.
The 28-year-old then led his team to victory in the third Ashes Test against Australia with an unbeaten inning of 135 runs. Stokes of Durham won the best player award, beating Simone Harmer, Ryan Higgins and Dom Sibley on Wednesday.
Stokes said, “It is difficult to describe it in words. I am happy that the players think I deserve to win the PCA’s Best Player of the Year award based on this year’s performance.’
Somerset’s Tom Banton was named the PCA’s best young player of the year, while England bowler Sophie Ecclestone was named the best female player of the year. Other winners included Chris Woakes as the best ODI player of the year and Stuart Broad as the best Test player of the year.
