The Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI today nominated India Opener Rohit Sharma,for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award,2020,while pacer Ishant Sharma, opener Shikhar Dhawan,and women cricketer All rounder Deepti Sharma have been nominated for the Arjuna Awards.
The BCCI,released an official statement in this regard.The players have been nominated as per guidelines of sports ministry.
For the period 1 Jan 2016, to Dec 31/2019
1.Rohit Sharma became the first cricketer in the History to score 5 centuries in a single edition of the ODI world cup. He was also nominated as the ICC ODI cricketer of the year 2019. He holds the record of scoring twin centuries on his maiden Test Appearance.
2.Shikhar Dhawan nominated for the Arjuna Award holds the record of scoring the fastest century on debut in Tests.He is also the only batsman to have won two consecutive golden bats in ICC champions trophy,Dhawan is the quickest in the world to score 2000 and 3000,runs internationally in the 50 over format.
3.Ishant Sharma has been successfully spearheading India’s fast bowling attack and holds the record of most wickets by an Indian pacer outside the subcontinent.
4.Deepti Sharma an all-rounder has been impressive, she currently holds the record of the highest individual score by Indian women cricketer in international matches and is the only bowler to take 6 wickets in an ODI for India internationally.
BCCI President Saurav Ganguly,said “we went through a lot of data and considered various perimeters before shortlisting the nominees.”Speaking about the nominations he elaborated:
“Rohit Sharma has set new benchmarks as a batsman and achieved scores people thought were not possible in the shorter formats of the game. He is worthy of the Khel Ratna award for his committment, consistency,conduct and leadership skills.”
I.Sharma” is the senior most member of the Test squad and his contribution has been vital in Indian teams long run as the No1 Test side.
Deepti is a genuine all-rounder and her contribution to the Teams international success has been vital”
