Australia had a struggling start to their second innings after openers Cameron Bancroft and David Warner were sent back in the hut early in Birmingham on Saturday. But another great effort from Steve Smith steadied the ship for the visitors. Australia who started their second innings with a deficit of 90 runs ended the third day’s play at 124/3 with Smith and Travis Head still their at the crease.

Earlier, in the day England lost Ben Stokes early during the proceedings and his departure was followed by a flurry of wickets. But Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad held the innings together. Woakes remained unbeaten at 37 while Broad scored 29. England were bundled out for 374.
