Shardul Thakur made a tremendous comeback for Chennai in the 15th over of Delhi’s innings by dismissing R Ashwin (2) and Shikhar Dhawan (39) on the first and last ball.
Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan added 24 runs for the first wicket. Shaw, who hit three fours, was looking in good rhythm, but then Deepak Chahar showed him the way out of the field by dismissing him. Josh Hazlewood got the second breakthrough for CSK by dismissing Shreyas Iyer (2).
Chennai captain MS Dhoni scored 18 runs off 27 balls and got his catch to Rishabh Pant behind the wicket off Avesh Khan. Surprisingly, the Delhi Capitals team was appealing and before the umpire gave his decision, Dhoni had already returned to the pavilion. Playing first, CSK scored 136/5.
Rituraj Gaikwad was dismissed LBW by Enrique Nortya on the very second ball of the match, but Gaikwad went against the decision of the umpire and took DRS. The replays clearly showed that the ball was leaving the wicket and going outside the leg-stump. After which Rituraj got a big lifeline at 0. However, he could not take advantage of this life and got his catch to R Ashwin on the score of (13) off Nortya’s ball.
CSK made two changes with Robin Uthappa in place of Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo in place of Sam Curran and Deepak Chahar in place of KM Asif. At the same time, DC gave Ripple Patel a chance in place of Steve Smith.
This was Delhi Capitals’ fourth consecutive win against CSK in the IPL. Earlier in Phase-2, Delhi had defeated Chennai by 7 wickets and in IPL 13 also DC won both the matches against Super Kings.
Suresh Raina did not find a place in the playing XI due to not being fully fit in today’s match. By the way, if seen, his performance in the current tournament so far has also been very disappointing. Most of the Chennai players are in great form, but Raina can be seen struggling.
