There has been a new addition to the race of title sponsorship for the IPL 2020. Education technology company Unacademy, which is already one of IPL’s sponsors is now seeking to make bids for the title sponsorships.
“I can confirm that Unacademy has shown interest and picked the bid papers. I have heard they will be submitting a bid and are pretty serious. So Patanjali if they bid, will have competition,” the senior official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Earlier, Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved was also added to the list of companies considering to make bids for IPL title sponsor for this year.
The slot has been left vacant after the Chinese company VIVO was made to pull out of the scenario amid the tension between the two countries at the LAC.
Confirming the development, Patanjali spokesperson S K Tijarawala told PTI: “We are considering this”.
“This is for Vocal For Local and making one Indian brand as global, this is the right platform. We are considering into that perspective,” he said.
“We have to take a final decision, whether we would take it or not,” Tijarawala added.
Amazon was the front-runner as per some reports while Jio, and soft drink giant Coca Cola were also in the race. Byjus who is Team india’s jersey sponsor had also been in the consideration.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to be seeking around 250 to 300 crores only as opposed.to original deal of Rs 440 crores per.year with Vivo.
