The Indian team probably faced the biggest dilemma of having a permanent pick for the number four slot during the World Cup 2019. A number of players were tried and tested at the position but the problem persisted and eventually India were knocked out of the tournament after losing the semi-final to New Zealand.
Suresh Raina who recently announced his retirement from international cricket alongside former skipper MS Dhoni reckons that Ambati Rayudu could have been the best man to play at number 4. Raina even said that India could have won the tournament if the right-handed batsman was in the squad.
Ambati Rayudu’s omission from the World Cup 2019 squad created a lot of controversies and the right-handed batsman himself took a dig at chief selector MSK Prasad. “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the World Cup,” he tweeted. Asked whether he regretted the tweet he made, Rayudu replied, “I don’t regret anything.”
Rayudu admitted that he was disappointed on not getting selected for the Indian side for WC 2019.
Talking about the same, chief selector MSK Prasad said,“It was a lovely tweet.”
“When we pick any player and he does well, we feel so happy for him,” the former stumper said in his committee’s defence.
