The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been facing a lot of heat on social media ever since they have announced Chinese company VIVO to continue as sponsors for the IPL 2020.
Now, the Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has been demanding the BCCI to re-think about this. The title sponsors of IPL, VIVO had signed a five-year deal with BCCI worth – 2199 crore in 2017.
There has been a lot of tension between the two countries at the LAC. National co-convenor of SJM, Ashwani Mahajan said “The call for boycott of Chinese goods is no longer just a demand from SJM; it is a call that is being supported by citizens in the wake of what transpired between India and China.”
“Whole world is boycotting China, IPL is sheltering them. They should understand that nothing is above nation,” he added.
The IPL 2020 edition will take place between September 19 and November 10 in the UAE. The venues for the event has been decided as “Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi subject to necessary clearances from the Government of India,” said an official statement.
The nods from Home Ministry and Ministry of External Affairs are expected to come soon.
IPL governing council met on Sunday and has finalised the squad size to be 24 players each. The replacements can be made if required.
The start of time may be 7:30 PM (IST) instead of 8:00 PM (IST). The sponsorship partners of the tournament that includes Chinese company VIVO will continue after the review during the meeting.
