The speculations about MS Dhoni’s retirement has been doing some rounds since he hasn’t been in action for a very long time now. Dhoni last played for India in the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand that The Men in Blue lost and hasn’t taken the field since then.
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar revealed that Dhoni had once told him about his plans of hanging his boots.
“During Virat Kohli’s wedding, I had a little corner time with him and he said that as long as I am beating the fastest sprinter in the team, I am going to consider myself fit enough to be playing international cricket or playing high-level cricket,” Manjrekar said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports.
The former India skipper will now be in action when he leads his CSK franchise in the IPL. Dhoni has been pretty successful as the skipper of the CSK team. The franchise has won the IPL thrice despite being banned for a couple of years.
MS was seen practicing at the Chepauk stadium with his CSK franchise before the lockdown.
The players will have to reach UAE 25 days prior to the start of the league while they will also go under 14-day quarantine before they can step on the field.
It was earlier slated to begin at the end of Mar ch but was postponed. Mumbai Indians were to host Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede stadium.
MI is the most successful team in the IPL as it has lifted the trophy four times while CSK has won it thrice. Apart from them Kolkata Knight Riders has been crowned as the winner twice while Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won it once.
This won’t be the first time when IPL would be taking place outside the country. In 2009, the IPL was shifted to South Africa while in 2014, first half of the tournament took place in UAE because of the general elections.
