The Indian premier league, a brainchild of BCCI, is a 20 overs a side tournament played on yearly basis. It was started in 2008, with 6 teams which have now been increased to 8, It involves each team playing the other twice on home and away basis.

At the conclusion of this double round robin league the top four teams on the basis of aggregate of points qualify for the play offs.

The top two teams play each other in a qualifier where the winner goes into the final, the loser plays against the winner among the lower two teams of the four and the winner among them goes into the finals.

The IPL has been amongst the most exciting and rich leagues across the world. Though several leagues are played all over the world , the IPL is the most sought after and has attained public attention in a very short time . All the participating teams are desperate to win the trophy.

The IPL has been a platform which has launched careers of many players, Ajinkya Rahane, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah are the perfect examples for the validation of this statement. The IPL Trophy has a few lines inscribed on it which are in Sanskrit language ,they are “ Yatra Pratibha avsara prapnotihi.” Meaning where talent meets opportunity. IPL Continues to provide many new talents to Cricket and fully justifies the writing on that trophy.

Meanwhile, BCCI is anxiously awaiting the ICC s final decision on the future of 20/20 world cup in Australia at the end of this year, If the global body postpones the event BCCI will get a window to host 1PL 20, as it was postponed March this year due to COVID 19 crisis.
